Why We Won Battle Against Sexual Harassment, Cultism In ABSU, By Outgoing VC

UMUAHIA – Professor Uche Ikonne, the outgoing Vice Chancellor of the Abia State Univer­sity, Uturu (ABSU), has said that the university under his tenure won the war against sexual harass­ment and cultism because the university deployed all arsenals available against the monsters.

This, he said, led to the sacking of some academ­ic staff and non-academic staff who compromised the moral and academic standards of the univer­sity by asking sexual of­fer in exchange for good marks.

In an exclusive inter­view with some select journalists in Umuahia on Thursday, Professor Ikonne explained that both sexual harassment and cultism were treated as heinous crimes which the university under him saw as cankerworm that should be exorcised from the institution.

The don maintained that many lecturers who were involved in the mis­demeanor had to turn a new leaf; even as some of them fought back to stop the university from con­tinuing with the war.

“If you fight corrup­tion, they say, corruption will fight back; many of them sought various ways of fighting back. However, many of them, including non-academ­ic staff involved in this turned a new leaf by do­ing the right thing.
